Lake Aviemore: a great place for New Year's Day

The Aviemore Challenge Trophy is set to get green light on the 1st January 2011 until the 3rd.

With two races each day, it's a simple lake cross and back race series for windsurfers. A great way to end 2010 and start 2011 with sporting activities.

There are trophies for each of the main classes and a very special silver plate as the main challenge. Lake Aviemore has traditionally been a great sailing and camping spot over the holidays. It works in thermal conditions and drags anything from a NE to a S, along the valley and straight down the lake.

Windsurfers and kiters camp usually on the northern side. The social side of the event is fun and was a great success last year.

New Zealand has several windsurfing events prepared for the first months of the New Year. After the Aviemore Challenge Trophy (1-3 January) take note on your agenda: there's a Southcoast Club Trip (22-23 or 29-30 January) depending on weather, the Windsurf National Slalom Champs (16-20 February) in Dunedin, the "‘Girls Only" Kite and Windsurf Weekend at Lake Clearwater (26-27 February), the Wanaka/Hawea Club Social Sail (tbc February) and the The Big Queenstown Downwinder (12-13 March).
