Ryan Hardy has stolen the opening event of the SunSmart WA Bodyboard Titles, at the Mandurah Wedge, Australia.
The bodyboarder from Margaret River was clearly the best wave rider amongst the 80 competitors that traveled to the best spot in Western Australia.
Local start and former national champion George Humphreys set about stamping his authority on the event with some huge inverts and rolls. He joined Jake Metcalfe, Boden Hay and Ryan Hardy in the Open Men's final.
Hardy made a welcome return to the grass roots events which helped launch his career with an emphatic win. Hardy showed his experience for challenging waves posting one of the highest combined heat scores of the weekend: a 15.17 point total, which included an 8.00 and a 7.17.
"My goal, this year, is the world title. I can't see myself competing for a State or National Title at this stage, but I'll always support the Western Australia events, if there's going to be good waves like we had today", said Hardy.
Hardy's mix of critical manoeuvres and clean execution in the final, gave him the win ahead of George Humphreys in second, Jake Metcalfe in third and Boden Hay in fourth.
Mark Boehm, Matt Budiselik, Daniel Steel, Dan Donovan and Ben Veitch took the Drop-Knee, Under 18 Junior Men, Under 16 Cadet Boys, Under 14 Grom Boys and Over 24 Senior Men.
