- 30 January 2009 | Bodyboarding
A report will be prepared for the Coroner following the death of a man at a popular beach in the State’s south last night.
About 7pm officers attached to Wollongong Local Area Command were called to Austinmer Beach after a witness reported seeing a man appear to lose consciousness and slip from his boogie board into the water.
Local lifesavers pulled the 56-year-old Kirrawee man from the water and notified emergency services.
Ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful.
The man’s body was taken to Wollongong Hospital for formal identification and inquiries into the incident continue.
