Miguel Rodriguez has taken out the 2020 Lurin Pro, at Playa Pulpos, in Lima, Peru.

The first event of the 2020 APB World Tour season attracted some of Latin America's best bodyboarders.

After defeating Alan Muñoz and Renan Faccini in the semifinals, Rodriguez and Matias Diaz battled it out for this year's opening event of the professional bodyboarding circuit.

The Peruvian surf break delivered fun conditions and kicked off a new chapter for the sport in South America.

In the end, it was the local athlete who rode the best waves. Rodriguez beat his Chilean opponent by a comfortable margin.

"What an epic day! I am happy to see that we were able to run an event here in Lurín. I have no words to describe what I'm feeling, especially because all riders competed at the highest level," expressed the young Peruvian bodyboarder.

In 2015, Rodriguez won the bronze medal at the ISA World Bodyboard Championship. He is also a two-time national champion (2017 and 2018).

The next stop on the APB World Tour schedule is the 2020 Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational. The iconic competition will run from February 24 to March 4, on the North Shore of Oahu, in Hawaii.
