Dan Worsely: the winner will meet the pros

South African competitor Daniel Worsely has taken out the 2010 Brett Young Shark Island Trials at Cronulla Point under crisp winter skies.

Today's competition was tough from the first heat. When the international field shaped up at first light the waves were small but conditions where perfect and highly contestable. With small tricky condition some of the closest heats in the events history were recorded with most place getters being only separated by less than point.

By the time the final hit the water spectators were treated to an intense battle for the top 2 places which would guarantee a position into the main event.

Local 15 year old ripper Sam Strachen had been on fire all competition with solid support from the local crowd, Tom Smith had been dominating all day with clear heat wins as was Shaun Peterson showing solid wave knowledge and landing big moves.

South African Daniel Worsley was on fire all day and from the opening minutes of the final he shown everyone he was out for a win linking big moves on the outside and finishing strong on the inside section.

After 30 minutes of tough competition the results were read out and a new event winner was announced. Daniel Worsely and Sam Strachan had finished first ad second and earned themselves a place in Bodyboarding's biggest Australian event.

Dan said " It's awesome to be able to win this event and the biggest reward is being able to compete in the main event its just amazing".

Shark Island Challenge: you cannot miss this classic

This Sunday the 13th we invite you to come down to Cronulla and firstly watch the Brett Young Shark Island Trials at Cronulla Point.

This event will start at 8am and the forecast is predicting some great waves. With two positions on offer for the Fluidzone Shark Island Challenge, the top two place getters will receive automatic entry into the 14th annual event vying for over $10,000 prize money.

At 3pm Emerald Surf City will host a promotional signing / meet the pro's afternoon. Emerald is the longest running bodyboarding specialist store in Australia and has a rich history with the Shark Island Challenge.

Come down and grab a photo or get a signature from the likes of World Champions Ben Player and Damian King or meet your heros like Dave Winchester, Ryan Hardy, Jason Finlay, Brenden Newton, Thomas Robison and John Showell.

When 4pm comes around the competitors will move next door to the 2230 Bar Cronulla for the official contest briefing and heat draw. See the heats drawn live and get all the official schedule for this years challenge whilst enjoying food and drinks at the 2230 Bar.

Boland Bodyboarding Association: their team is ready

The Boland Bodyboarding Association have concluded their four trial series. They have selected their 2010 team, sponsored by Science Bodyboards and Reef Wetsuits who will compete in this years SA Bodyboarding Championships to be held in Central KZN in late September through to October.

The reason behind the Boland committee completing their trial series early in the year is because a number of team building and surf camps can be held; this compels the team together and giving them a sense of team spirit.
