Susi Mai is back to the kiteboarding waters after a severe injured suffered in the Philippines, eight months ago. The returning process was slow and Mai was anxiously waiting for the moment she would relaunch a kite. Meanwhile, she has been paddleboarding to keep in touch with the water.
Recently, "The Kite Show" visited Susi Mai, in Cabarete. Annelies Van de Velde visited her favourite kite spots and the best places to have fun, day and night. You can watch it in this video.
Susi Mai lives in the Dominican Republic, where she also spends much of her time training and improving tricks and skills. Mai enjoys kiteboarding in the open sea, but also in flat waters near a local river mouth called "La Boca".
Susi is never at home for a long time. Mai is looking forward to get into new kiteboarding experiences and that's why she's constantly travelling the world. One of the examples was the Red Bull Ragnarok, held in the freezing temperatures of Norway.
"I tore my ACL and meniscus and shattered a few of my bones. I had a surgery in December and I've been doing rehab and not allowed into the water until September", says Susi Mai. Now, she's ready to storm the world again.
For the next 10 years, Susi Mai will be letting the wind decide her path. That's the kite way.
