Ride: Luke Wilson and Helen Hunt hit Venice Beach

Helen Hunt is a prolific surfer. "Ride" is her latest film adventure on the big screen.

The storyline couldn't be simpler. A mother travels cross-country to California to be with her son after he decides to drop out of school and become a surfer.

In other words, when her son dropped out, she dropped in. Hunt had the idea for the film when she saw a mother surfing in Hawaii.

"I was nine months pregnant, and we're [on] the side of the road looking out at the ocean. She got out of the water, put her surfboard down, took a bottle of water and poured it on her breast and started nursing. I thought, 'I want to be her,'" the actress revealed.

The "Ride" cast includes Luke Wilson, Brenton Thwaites, and Leonor Varela.

Thwaites has a surfing background, but Wilson didn't know how to ride waves. In the end, Luke learned quickly.

Helen Hunt plays the role of an editor at The New Yorker, who plans to teach her son a lesson but ends up "trapped" in a self-discovery adventure.

"Ride" hits the movie theaters on May 1st, 2015.
