The Beach Boys: the surfer dudes

The Beach Boys are returning to the world music stages, after 40 years. The most famous surf band in the planet is making a glorious comeback with 50 concerts worldwide. The Beach Boys decided to reunite to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary.

Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will be performing "Surfin' USA", "Surfer Girl", "Surfin' Safari", "Little Deuce Coupe" and "Good Vibrations" in an international tour, beginning in April 2012, in the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

"This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be onstage with them again," said Wilson, who is 69.

Founding members Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson passed away in 1983 and 1998, respectively, and The Beach Boys rarely played together since the 1960's. In 2006, Wilson, Love, Jardine, Johnston and Marks celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Pet Sounds".

"There will be a surprise at the Grammys," Jardine has told Rolling Stone magazine. "We'll do something really exciting. There's a lot of interest in it, which is nice. It's going to be a very big operation."

The Beach Boys have also confirmed that there might be a brand new record in the next years. After re-recording the 1968 classic "Do It Again", The Beach Boys decided to book additional studio sessions.

"It sounded so good we just decided to continue," says Jardine. "There are some new things that Brian has come up with that are really remarkable. 'Do It Again' was done in an afternoon. These songs will take a little more putting our heads together."

The Beach Boys formed in 1961, in Hawthorne, California. Their surf rock anthems were the American answer to the Beatles. "Pet Sounds", the 11th studio album, has been considered as one of the most influential albums in the history of popular music and one of the best albums of the 1960's, featuring hits like "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "God Only Knows".
