The 2013 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards are on. Jaws is already delivering huge waves and outstanding rides on the north coast of Maui, Hawaii.
Shane Dorian has no time to lose. The experienced big wave surfer has opened the hostilities of the 2013 Billabong XXL season and a flood of new entries has invaded the contest.
The first videos coming from Jaws are insane. Forget tow-in and meet the modern day paddle surfer pushing limits far beyond the limits.
The swell, generated by the remnants of Typhoon Maliksi, hit the Hawaiian chain and spectacular set of waves were surfed for the "Ride of the Year" category.
Early contenders already entered into the various categories of the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards include a pair of tube rides by Dorian, a huge wall ridden by Makua Rothman and several excellent rides by female charger Keala Kennelly.
