Bethany Hamilton: President Obama says he's a better surfer

Barack Obama has invited Bethany Hamilton to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast, in Washington, DC.

The "Soul Surfer" revealed how she recovered from losing her arm in a shark attack, and how her spiritual strength helped her professional surfing career afterwards.

"Because of where Jesus brought me, I have no regrets of the adversities God has allowed me to go through," underlined Hamilton.

"As you look at me, you could think, 'Wow, have pity on her, she lost her arm to a shark.' But I look it as something beautiful. God has taken something awful and turned it into something incredibly amazing."

Hamilton cited The Bible and spoke about the children of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, who are undergoing severe diseases.

"I felt as though I had lost more than just my arm. I thought that my hopes and dreams to become a pro-surfer and adventure the world were stripped away, but the faith I had in Jesus Christ gave me the strength to comprehend and lean on Him for understanding, even as a young girl."

President Obama later joked that his surfing skills were not as good as hers, and other distinguished participants.

Bethany Hamilton was only 13 when she was attacked by a shark in off of Kauai's North Shore. Ten years later, the blonde powerhouse has already written books and inspired multiple surf movies. Hamilton is married to Adam Dirks, a youth pastor from Hawaii.
