"The Crest" is a documentary project which follows two Irish-American cousins, both great great grandchildren of the King of the Blasket Islands.
Until recently, they've lived remarkably similar lives on opposite coasts, unaware of each other's existence. They'll meet for the first time and bring their shared passion, surfing, to the dangerous waters of their ancestors' now abandoned island.
Ireland's Blasket Islands have become a cult topic, producing and inspiring nearly as many books as it had residents. This place had been a hot bed of lasting literature and adventure.
Among the King's duties was to trek across miles of unforgiving ocean to the Dingle Peninsula for correspondence and supplies. After his death, and evacuation of the island - his decedents settled in America.
Mark Covino is the director behind the "The Crest". The surf documentary will continue to explore the broad topic of nearly lost cultural treasures, while spotlighting the rich family connections that make these stories so interesting in the first place.
