"We were unlucky not to get a third race today and validate the championship on the first day. However this was definitely a masterful display from reigning world champion, Wojtek Brzozowski, POL 10 - two bullets in convincing style. For sure he is not going to relinquish the title easily. In the women's fleet a win each for Marta Hlavaty (POL 111) and Allison Shreeve (AUS 911)."
The decision was made to race the men in one fleet but competitors and organisers at the 2009 FW Worlds in Santa Pola had to wait until after lunch for the wind to increase.
The finish was set very close to the spectator stand on the shoreline. Over-eager to get started, the first race started with a general recall - many sailors ignored the chase boats and sailed to the first mark!
However, a good clean start followed with 17 knots at the windward mark.
Fast paced and exciting racing was the order of the afternoon with two races for the men and two races for the women before the wind dropped late in the day in advance of a storm.
