Starboard announced that they are recalling all Phantoms with a serial number above 40.
The following comments are from the designer, Tiesda and were available on the Starboard forum.
«To owners of the Phantom Race 380 serial numbers #040 and above,
Our manufacturer has advised us that a number of boards have been produced without the specified layer of PVC reinforcement around the critical area in the daggerboard box. This may result in cracks and water intake. We feel that it is the correct action for the World’s number one Windsurfing board brand to make a full recall on this model, to be replaced with the new 2009 version of the Phantom Race 380, scheduled for release this coming spring.
On a positive note, this new 2009 Phantom Race 380 shape has been tested to be quite a bit faster both upwind and on the reach compared to current, World Champion, Phantom 380 of 2007/2008. Racers will get even better kit, and Starboard will thus bring into the market a board that otherwise would not have seen the race scene before 2010.
We apologize for all the incident and we hope that by offering to replace the board with the new and faster model in spring, we would continue to keep all Starboard raceboarders happy and ahead of the game.

It is time to crown the windsurfing champions. The 2008 PWA World Tour is over and positions are finally definitive.
Antoine Albeau (Slalom), Jose 'Golito' Estredo (Freestyle) and Kauli Seadi (Wave) are the Men's World Champions.
For Seadi, his second place in Sylt was enough for him to be awarded his third Wave World Title, a hugely impressive feat.
For Estredo, his second place finish was enough to bag him his second successive Freestyle World Title.

Only a few weeks to go before the 2008 TWC kicks off. The Taranaki Wave Classic is New Zealand's premiere windsurfing event.
This is a multi-day Expression Session event held over NZ's Labour weekend.
The event will sample some of New Zealand's best wind and wave conditions, and will be held at 4 possible locations around the legendary Taranaki peninsula coastline.
All skill levels are welcome or just come along chill out and watch the action. Beer, bands and barbies will be organised for after session entertainment.
Following a long history of events held in Taranaki, the Taranaki Wave Classic will continue to put the emphasis on fun.
The event will be an Expression Session format, where competitors will free-sail in whatever conditions occur at the chosen location for that day. There will be no heats, no man on man elimination and no stress.
