Philip Kümpel: windsurfer and film composer

The wind has inspired storytellers, legends, and myths. And it also motivates Philipp Kümpel to compose film scores through windsurfing.

Many have questioned if windsurfing is a lifestyle on its own. We think it is. Philipp Kümpel is a windsurfer and film composer. The soundtrack to his personal and professional life is blown by the wind.

"Music and windsurfing fit together perfectly. Windsurfing gives me the inspiration I need for my composing world. Music is all about waves and moving air. When I'm on my board, I can hold the wind in my hands and feel the waves with my feet," Kümpel reveals in the beautiful movie "Inspiration," shot at El Medano.

"In my mind, this creates a symphony of feelings. All the colors of the water inspire me to find new harmonics, and the waves give me a new rhythm for music. Your mind becomes wide open, and your feelings begin to flow."

The German windsurfer feels inspired by the different colors of the water and the sky. He says that when you're with nature, "you feel it, you taste it, and with windsurfing and music, you get two magic places."
