The Rampant by Roy Stuart: the world's most expensive surfboard

A Kiwi surfboard shaper has designed the world's most expensive surfboard.

Forget the "Baywatch" surfboard, auctioned at eBay. Roy Stuart says he used advanced hydrodynamics to produce a very unusual surfboard.

The Rampant 10'6'' apparently allows surfers to reach speeds of 35 miles per hour.

For "only" 1.3 million dollars, you'll get an extravagant wooden plank that weighs 31 pounds (14 kilograms), coated with a 23-carat gold dragon inlay.

Although you might feel a bit insecure taking a treasure into the line-up, take a deep breath and relax.

The 1.3 million dollar surfboard was laminated with red and yellow resins, so it probably won't break into two pieces in a summer wipeout.

Roy Stuart added a Vort-X plus one fin configuration. It's strange, but then that's what you'll expect from the world's most expensive surfboard. Still skeptic?

"The axis of rotation of the tubular fin is aligned with the axis of the surfboard hull, so there is no added resistance to roll, and the tunnel-equipped board retains its single fin-esque effortless turning and trimming capability," explains the craftsman.
