Joana Schenker: she finally won the Miss Sumol Cup

Joana Schenker has conquered the Miss Sumol Cup 2014, in a tight final against defending champion Catarina Sousa, Fatima Zahara, and Marta Leitão, at Ilhavo, Portugal.

The bodyboarder from the Algarve had never won the event, which has been run nonstop since 2005. In previous editions, Schenker got two fourth places, and a third spot.

"I'm very happy because this is the best event in Europe and maybe in the world as it is specially designed for us. This victory was a goal I had. Waves were good, but the peak was always shifting. With the help of Chico from the jetty, it was easier to get it," says Joana Schenker.

The rider from Sagres opened the final with a blast. Her first couple of waves - a 6.33 and a 5.50-point ride - sealed the deal and left her opponents chasing high scores.

A total of 177 waves were ridden during the Miss Sumol Cup 2014. Catarina Sousa scored the best wave with 8.75 points from the judges in the semifinal. The Miss Congeniality award went to Ana Adão.
