Australia: the nation's best bodyboarders get ready for the 2016 ABA Tour | Photo: Surfing Australia

The Australian Bodyboarding Association (ABA) has announced the full calendar for the 2016 national tour.

With a new sponsor - Hog's Breath - the ABA Pro Tour and the Pro Junior Series return to showcase the best competitive bodyboarders in Australian territory. There's one setback - the absence of the Mandurah Pro - and a few surprises.

The 2016 ABA Tour kicks off on April 15th at Duranbah Beach, in New South Wales. It's the first of four stages. The overall champions will be crowned in the last event of the season, in June.

ABA has also worked closely with each Surfing Australia state body to get amateur riders into the pro bodyboarding scene. As a result, state title winners will earn positions into ABA Pro Tour events.

"This has been one of our main objectives this year. We really want to build the sport and work alongside other bodyboarding and surfing bodies to make sure we can all make competitive bodyboarding stronger," underlined Dylan Beach, general manager of the ABA.

The Jeff Wilcox Memorial will be an ABA Specialty Event, and the brand new Tri Series - held in Newcastle, Curl Curl and Byron Bay - will attract the nation's best Junior, Drop-Knee and Women riders.
