Amaury Lavernhe and Teresa Padilla have taken out the World Cup Gran Canaria Frontón King 2018, in Galdar, Canary Islands.

The iconic bodyboarding contest has come to a close at the infamous Canarian slab with two Canarian residents climbing the highest podium places.

Although the finals weren't blessed by the classic El Frontón conditions, the waves on offer were rideable and offered a few barreling opportunities.

The new queen of El Frontón is Teresa Padilla, a rider from the neighbor island of Tenerife. She beat former world champion and APB World Tour campaigner Alexandra Rinder.

"I am surprised, excited, and very happy. I still can't believe it. I am extremely emotional to have beaten Rinder. So much effort has been worth it," expressed Padilla.

On the men's side, Amaury Lavernhe won the event for the third time with a near-perfect two-wave total of 19.50 points and a performance that left the audience breathless.

"I've been crying tears with this trophy. I am proud to be a bodyboarder and thus be able to retransmit the values of this sport. For me, bodyboarding means a lot. It has given me a family, friends, and a life here where I feel at home," added the bodyboarder from Reunion Island.

The 2018 Frontón King was not an event sanctioned by the Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB). Hopefully, the contest will return in 2019 as part of the official pro bodyboarding circuit.
