Pipeline Pro: running for 31 years

The Association of Professional Bodyboarders (APB) has confirmed that the Pipeline Pro will run between 18th-28th, at Banzai Pipeline, in Hawaii.

Details are scarce on the upcoming 2014 IBA World Tour schedule. The newly established Association of Professional Bodyboarders has only updated fans with a brief statement regarding the Pipeline Pro. Yes, it will be run.

After unveiling the background rules for the revamped 2014 IBA World Tour, the APB is still fine-tuning the entire season program. No sponsor updates, no prize-money information, to teaser, no media releases.

However, Mike Stewart, Jeff Hubbard and the entire team behind APB promise a revolution in professional bodyboarding.

The Pipeline Pro, also known as Pipe Challenge, is one of the longest-running bodyboarding contests in the world. The first edition, named International Morey Boogie Bodyboard Pro Championships, was held for the first time in 1982.

In 2013, the lack of support from the bodyboarding industry almost cancelled the event, but a last-minute support from GoPro put the waves rolling.

It was the year of the first soft landing on the Moon. In 1966, "Peanuts" went surfing. And skateboarding. Or at least, they tried to ride a few waves through mind surfing.
