The third round of the Rebel Sport Pro Tour will be staged at 13th beach on the weekend of the 23rd & 24th of May and will feature some of the biggest names in the sport.

Current ratings leader Jake Stone (Qld) and second placed Mitch Rawlins (WA) and last years overall champion Dave Winchester (NSW) will lead a star studded field into the 2 Star event.

“I can’t wait for the comp at Vico” said Wincester.

“ 13th Beach always has some good peaky ramps and the tour this year is really stacked with talent so it helps to push you”

Leading the charge for the locals will be Jayden Hunt (Surf Coast) and Josh Speechely (Surf Coast).

“I am pumped. The last few years this event was staged at Warrnambool and I didn’t feel like I had a home court advantage.” said Jayden.

“ I follow the Rebel Sport Pro Tour around the country and now it’s in my backyard I’m keen to do well”

“ The local groms are pumped to see their hero’s and also try to qualify for the Nationals”

Along with the Rheopaipo Pro the Victorian State Amateur titles will be contested and the top placegetters will represent Victoria at the RAW Australasian Titles at Duranbah (Qld) in November.

The Rebel Sport Pro Tour goes from Qld to NSW, Victoria, West Australia, South Australia and then Tasmania before wrapping up again in Queensland.

It’s a major stepping stone in the path to becoming a Pro Bodyboarder and the Top 10 at the end of each season are seeded directly into the IBA World Tour event at Pipeline Hawaii.

IBA Australasia General Manager Terry McKenna says that the sport is experiencing a boom worldwide as well as here in Australia.

“ The sport is really growing globally. Despite the tough economic times the sales of bodyboards is increasing. Maybe because of the affordability and easy entry level that the sport offers”.

“ The Australian domestic tour is regarded as the toughest and strongest tour in the world and some of the talent emerging for here is amazing” said McKenna.

The Rheopaipo Pro presented by Shed 9 and Club 4Play gets underway on Sat 23rd May at beacons carpark 13th Beach at 7am.
