The Caparica Primavera Surf Fest will launch the 2015 European junior surfing season, from April 1st-4th, in Portugal.

The new event will be the first of two under-20 competitions to take place in Portugal. The World Surf League (WSL) is debuting a new format in which all events offer the same amount of ranking points.

"Event organisers and the city council of Almada are working hard on staging a huge music festival, along with national surfing contests, to enhance a 10-day surf and music experience for the region," explained Rob Gunning, WSL European Tour manager.

Vasco Ribeiro, the 2014 ASP World Junior champion, is now competing on the Qualifying Series, leaving the door wide opened for the next generation to swoop in and steal the show.

"Costa da Caparica is a very consistent spot, it has waves over the course of the year and I really like coming here to surf. That's why it will be great and a wonderful surf show by the best European surfers," confirms Ribeiro.

Aside from the main WSL surfing event, the Caparica Primavera Surf Fest will also feature three national competitions, hosting a total of over 500 athletes during the event window held in Praia do Paraiso.

Costa da Caparica offers 30 kilometers of beaches and over 100 wave peaks, just 15 minutes away from Lisbon. The region delivers surf breaks for all tastes and levels of experience.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
