Filipe Toledo: third victory of the season | Photo: Kirstin/WSL

Filipe Toledo has taken out the 2015 Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal, at Supertubos, in Peniche.

The all-Brazilian final had those who were able to adapt to the onshore wind conditions on offer. Toledo could win his third event of the season. An amazing track record, compared to Italo Ferreira's first Dream Tour final.

But Toledo had an epic start with an incredible crazy wave. A 10-point ride for a collection of speedy floaters, airs, and vertical off the bottom snaps. What a start.

In a matter of ten minutes, Filipe had already put Italo in a combination situation, after finding an important backup wave scored at 7.33 points. Ferreira tried, but his best wave was still not enough to threaten his fellow countryman.

Until he pulled a massive no-hands air awarded with a near-perfect 9.93 score from the judges. It was - no doubt - one of the biggest air of the decade. A comeback was in the making. Could he turn the final around?

Toledo woke up and answered with a beautiful ride punctuated by a couple of airs. With an improved 7.83 backup wave, he had just stolen the contest. Filipe had a 10-point ride in every final he surfed.

"I have no words, I'm just so stoked. I had a crazy two-weeks here, I hurt my back right when I got here after France. France was such a bummer for me, but it made me think about everything and put my mind in the right place and now the results are showing," revealed Filipe Toledo.

"The final to me is the best heat, I don't have anything to lose and I just go for it. I put everything I had on the wave. Another final, another 10."

One last word for the Portuguese Cyclone. Frederico Morais reached the quarterfinals while Vasco Ribeiro finished third in Supertubos. The 2014 ASP World Junior champion equalled the best result ever by a Portuguese surfer on a Championship Tour event.

The 2015 World Surf League title will be decided at the Pipeline Masters, in Hawaii. Mick Fanning, Filipe Toledo, Adriano de Souza, Gabriel Medina, Owen Wright, and Julian Wilson are in contention. Who will prevail in the mother of all waves? Check the world title scenarios.
