Alejo Muniz has taken out the Burton Automotive Pro 2015, Merewether, New South Wales, Australia. Ellie Brooks triumphed in the Burton Automotive Women's Classic.

The Brazilian surfer couldn't ask for a better anniversary gift. Muniz, 25, defeated Jack Freestone in the 35-minute final with a collection of explosive and exciting turns.

"It's my birthday today so this feels extra special. It also feels amazing because two years ago I finished second to Parko here, and now I was able to win," highlights Alejo Muniz.

"Before the final I wrote a message on my board to my friend Ricardo Dos Santos. He was an amazing surfer, and he passed away one month ago. This is a very special day for me to dedicate this win to him."

Ellie Brooks was the underdog, but she showed no mercy against the local favorite Philippa Anderson. The surfer from Queensland posted big scores and took her maiden Qualifying Series victory.

"When the siren sounded I was wondering if this was really happening! This is my best ever result by far! I packed the car a couple days ago thinking I'd be going home early so to now be the winner feels so good," added Brooks.
