Australia has taken out the gold medal at the 2016 Fiji ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship.

Shakira Westdorp (SUP Surfing Women), Michael Booth (SUP Distance Racing Men), Harriet Brown (Harriet Brown), and Matt Poole (Paddleboard Racing Technical Men) won five gold medals with the Australian flag.

"Our goal was to take the gold back to Australia, and we did it. Everyone represented Australia well and contributed to the team points. I am proud of the team and what we achieved today," stated Westdorp.

The event had some pretty intense and emotional moments. Manca Notar, the first ever Slovenian athlete at an ISA competition, won a copper medal for her country.

Tanvi Jagadish, a 16-year-old SUP Racer from India, represented her country for the first in an ISA World Championship and was greeted by her opponents as she crossed the finish line.

"I have so much passion for learning surfing and stand-up paddling from when I was eight-years-old, but nobody supported me much because I was a girl. But I never gave up because I badly wanted to do it and I really wanted to support more girls' participation in the world of sports. And now I have this opportunity to represent India," expressed Jagadish.

Casper Steinfath hails from Denmark. His country will hold the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship next year, in Copenhagen and Cold Hawaii, so he couldn't be happier with a gold medal.

"I've dreamt about winning this gold medal all year. I am still pinching myself to see if it was real. We just culminated a historical event here in Fiji. Last year we were in Mexico, this year in Fiji and next year we are going to Denmark, my home country. Vinaka Fiji!" added Steinfath.

Fernando Aguerre, the president of the International Surfing Association, was ecstatic.

"This is the end of a historic week of competition as SUP was raised to new heights and a new standard set for the sport. The Fijian people greeted us with their warm, contagious 'Bula' vibes and left a lasting impression on all of us. We will leave here as ambassadors of this country, their culture and their amazing waves," concluded Aguerre.
