Chris Zaffis conquered the Mentawai Pro 2016, held at the iconic pointbreak of Lance's Right, in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia.

The Australian surfer won his maiden Qualifying Series event after defeating Dede Suryana in flawless four-to-six-foot barrels. Zaffis scored 19.25 points against Suryana's 18.00 points.

"I'm so lost for words. I can't believe I just won a QS in such pumping barrels. I don't think I've ever surfed waves as good as that in my life so to surf like that in a comp is mind boggling - waves don't get better than that," expressed Chris Zaffis.

The Mentawai Pro 2016 had fantastic waves. Hopefully, in the near future, it will become a bigger contest with more QS points on offer. Zaffis, who showed a rare talent at Lance's Right, found the winning barrel with two minutes on the clock.

"I knew I needed that score and was so nervous, Dede had been on such a roll all contest and he had me needing a high score. I waited and waited until that one came and just sat in it."
