Three Brazilian surfers have confirmed their presence on the quarterfinals of the Oi Rio Pro 2016.

Gabriel Medina is quietly advancing through in the competition and has already secured his best result of the season. The 2014 world surfing champion won his Round 3 and 4 heats, but he wants more.

"That was a good heat because there were a lot of waves and a lot of opportunities. I am stoked to get another 10 and get into the Quarters. Hopefully, the waves keep coming. I am feeling good," said Medina.

However, Davey Cathels is the man of the day. The Australian shocked the fans on the beach by eliminating Filipe Toledo, a crowd favorite, especially in Rio de Janeiro.

"I didn't know I was in the lead. The first turn didn't feel that good. When I saw the replay on the beach, it looked better than it felt. I am stoked. I've been feeling weird all day and couldn't find any rhythm. I decided just to change everything, so I sat in a different spot and rode a different board," explained Cathels.

Dusty Payne confessed he has been eating well, and it seems to pay off. The Hawaiian tube specialist defeated Toledo and Florence in Round 4, and he will be a quarterfinalist in Rio.

"Even though I am getting older, I am still having fun. Florence and Toledo are unbelievable. I was tripping when they only had 7 and 6-point rides. Usually, I get those guys, and they drop excellent-range scores. I am just happy it wasn't too high scoring," concluded Payne.
