Dungeons: cold and scary

The 2014 Dungeons Challenge, the second stop on the Big Wave World Tour, is on yellow alert.

A good-looking swell might be heading towards Cape Town, South Africa, and hitting the iconic big wave surf spot between 18th-19th August.

Wave face sizes may be in the 20-25 foot plus range, and possibly pushing toward 30-foot faces. ASP will issue a green Alert 72 hours prior to commencement if the event is called on.

"We are starting to see some storm activity that we are getting excited about. With only a couple of weeks left in the waiting period, these are positive times and it would be great to finish the Southern Hemisphere leg with a bang," explains Peter Mel, Big Wave World Tour commissioner.

Hawaiian Makua Rothman won Billabong Pico Alto, the first event of the 2014/2015 season. The Southern Hemisphere window closes on the 31st August, with Chile and South Africa as remaining option.

The Northern Hemisphere window runs from October 15th, 2014, to February 28, 2015, with contest options in Mexico, the Basque Region of Spain, and Maui.

The 24-man field for the Dungeons Challenge will be comprised of the ASP BWWT Top 12, led by the world champion, as well as six ASP wildcards and six local wildcards:
