Big waves are making their way to the North of Spain for the upcoming 2011 Pantin Classic Pro, to be surfed near Ferrol. There are valuable points at stake for surfers wanting a seat in the elite Men's and Women's ASP World Tours in 2012.
The truly iconic event of Galicia has solidified over the decades as one of Europe's best professional surfing events. ‘La Factoria' of Pantin is guaranteed to produce some excellent quality waves with the first of the early autumn swells expected to hit the Galician coast during the event window.
Surfer's of the calibre of Wiggolly Dantas, Dion Atkinson and last year's winner Billy Stairmand are confirmed and will be out to battle for the ASP 5-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro title along with top European's Aritz Aranburu, Jonathan Gonzalez and Joan Duru.
The ASP 6-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro women's event has brought together the some of the world's best female athletes to Pantin with names such as defending champion Courtney Conlogue, former ASP world champion Sophia Mulanovich as well as up-and-comers Lakey Peterson and Sarah Mason who are both on the verge of qualifying for the 2012 ASP Women's World Tour.
Europe's representatives include Pauline Ado and current ASP World Junior champ Alizee Arnaud. Locals Yolanda Aneiros and Erika Franco have both been given wildcards into the event and are set to take on the world's best.
The ASP 5-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro is scheduled from September 13-18, 2011.
