Joel Parkinson has arrived in Australia and was congratulated as a true hero, after claiming the 2012 ASP World Tour title.
In Hollywood style, Joel Parkinson touched down on the Australian Gold Coast through a giant arch of water, at the Gold Coast Airport.
When the helicopter stopped, Parkinson's surf fans cheered and everyone wanted to hug the Australian hero. The Coolangatta was very happy and greeted all supporters on-site, as well as parents Brian and Jo.
The local authorities prepared a customized arrival for Joel Parkinson, with whole former Tiger Airways building decked out in his honour.
"Everyone has kept it pretty hush hush from me so to put it in here and see the effort that's just gone into this is amazing", said Parkinson.
"It was so overwhelming. It really feels like it's sunk in now. I couldn't have asked to come back to a better place".
Joel Parkinson praised Monica's endless support on the road to the surfing title. "It was a pretty intense day and she knows me inside out. She knew when I was a little bit too amped up and not enough amped up".
The first days in the Gold Coast will be of celebrations with the family, friends and local supporters.
"There will be a lot of people who will want to cheers beers with me and I'll be happy to oblige. I'm always proud to represent Cooly".
