The Mavericks Invitational 2012/2013 may get the green light on Sunday, 20th January 2013, as a huge swell builds in the Pacific Ocean.
Meanwhile, with an 80% chance that the Mavericks Invitational 2012/2013 will run this Sunday, John Forse, contest director of the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic has decided to put his event on-hold, giving priority to Mavericks. "As much as we hate to pass on a good swell, we have decided in the interest of cohesiveness of the big wave brotherhood and the Big Wave World Tour to not run the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic this weekend and throw all our support behind the Mavericks Invitational", says Forse. "We still have two more months in the waiting period and hope the surf gods will reward us with our own epic swell". The decision to run or not run the Mavericks Invitational will be taken on Friday or Saturday. Wave faces bigger than 25 feet may be coming up in the Half Moon Bay horizon. |
