Diego Mignot: chasing spray at Sopelana

Diego Mignot and Cannelle Bulard have conquered the Sopela O'Neill Pro Junior 2013, in Sopelana, Basque Country.

Mignot went on a tear in the final heat against Leonardo Fioravanti, posting a 9.50 and a 9.00 to claim the highest combined heat total of the event and securing his maiden ASP Pro Junior win.

"It's unreal, I can't believe I've just won. That was always my goal to win an event but I still can't believe I just did. I think wave selection was key today cause there weren't that many in the final and fortunately I got a few", reveals Diego.

"I'm going to try no to think too much about the rankings and take it event by event, my goal is to finish in the top spots to secure a qualification for the World Juniors, we'll see how that goes!"

Ian Fontaine and Tomas Fernandes complete the podium respectively in third and fourth position. The two surfers could never quite catch up with the frontrunner in this final but put up a good fight.

Cannelle Bulard entered the water with determination and focus on the event win in the final and kept busy out in the lineup consistently building her scoreboard wave after wave.

After just coming short of the event win in the first event, Bulard refocused and surfed a smart heat to secure the victory and join Johanne Defay on top of the Women's rankings.

"I'm so tired! I think I never wanted to win that bad and I just gave everything I had. I didn't get anything in the first 12 minutes or so and then I started taking a few with only one manoeuver and finally I got that good one and I even claimed it!", says Bulard.
